Anthony High School principal and volleyball coach Marianne Larimer died Tuesday afternoon.Larimer died at her home in Salem at age 59.A native of Salem, Larimer was a member of the Salem Community High School Hall of Fame, having played volleyball, basketball, softball and tennis. She attended Millikin University in Decatur and was named Most Valuable Player in both basketball and volleyball, scoring more than 1,000 points for the Big Blue. She earned 10 varsity letters at Millikin and was the first female to get the "M" Award for outstanding athletes at Millikin.Following graduation, Larimer coached high school volleyball, tennis, basketball and track. She found her greatest success in volleyball, particularly at Casey-Westfield. She was the Decatur Herald Coach of the Year in volleyball in 1988 and 1999 while at Casey-Westfield and in 2005 and 2006 at St. Anthony.Larimer taught, coached and served as an administrator at St. Anthony High School. She began her career at St. Anthony in 2002 and became principal in 2005, serving in that role until 2010.Rogers-Atkins Funeral Home in Salem will handle funeral arrangements.
